Feedback from Student Evaluations
NOTE: The only changes made to the following are grammatical and spelling changes. No changes have been made to the context of the students’ responses.

Dr. B is one of the best teachers I’ve had the pleasure of learning from at W&J. They encouraged active participation in class, and they don’t make anyone feel as though their opinion shouldn’t be shared. They are understanding of the pressure and stress that students are under and adjust their class to the needs of the individual students. They assign readings that are thoughtful and enjoyable to read, while helping students expand their knowledge of the world and the people around them. When the readings are more complicated, Dr. B takes the time to make sure everyone understands them without making anyone feel stupid. I, as a student, felt appreciated and seen in Dr. B’s class, and if I weren’t graduating, I would try to take as many more classes with them as I could.

Honestly made it feel like I was actually there in class. I know the pandemic hasn’t helped too much but I believe you did a great job making the zoom participants not feel left out. This made it easier to comprehend everything we have learned.

Professor Berberick is truly a once-in-a-lifetime type of person. Just truly a Godsend. Every time a day was bad, or I did not feel appreciated for my individuality I knew GWS-100 would be a place for me. They made me feel as if I mattered, not even for my intellectual side, but simply because I am a PERSON. This has been the first person in my life who has actually made me feel COMFORTABLE. Additionally, they do a great job at teaching. This isn't a "lecture-based" course, it's a discussion course were making parallels back into our everyday lives. Through this class, I have learned skills and become aware of things that I will cherish and carry with me for the rest of my life. For this, I'm eternally grateful.

Dr. B has a really sensitive way to address this course and the challenges that come with the course, they provide a space for learning and trust to discuss taboo or difficult topics. Their classes are really dynamic and well planned for the time that it requires. Student cases were a great opportunity to get to know classmates and the reading reports for bonding in the class even for people remote like me.

I always enjoy taking Dr. B's classes because I will leave classes thinking about what we talked about and how I can change what I am doing to help the people around me and how to positively impact the people around me. Dr. B has done a wonderful job teaching both students that are on campus and students that are fully remote. . . Dr. B is hands down my favorite professor on campus and they always are looking out for their students best interests no matter what.

Dr. Berberick is inclusive, passionate, and enthusiastic. They are an awesome professor who cares about growth in their students. They made their office hours flexible and encouraged students to stop by even if it was to talk about about other topics. They really made me feel motivated after my conversations with them. Dr. B is very wise and their questions made me think critically about journalism. Since I’ve never taken a course like this, the topic was taught well and their lectures were enough to feel like I understood the material. Dr. B also did a nice job of engaging both the students in person and online. I can’t think of another professor who would be better to teach this course.

Dr. B is one of my favorite professors if not my most favorite. They always encourage participation and inclusion among each of their students and I have loved taking courses with them as the instructor.

I had to take this class as a major requirement but I very much enjoyed it. Dr. B is great when it comes to being engaging, informative and understanding. I cannot thank Dr. B enough for being understanding this semester and "going easy" on us when we were all stressed and pushed to the limit. The lectures were always informational but fun. I am always happy to take a class with Dr. B.

Dr. B was a very helpful and instructive professor who always brought energy and positivity to every class. Hybrid classes are definitely difficult to remain engaged in, but Dr. B was always able to draw everyone's attention back to the topic at hand. An overall very informative and enjoyable class with a passionate professor.

Dr. B is the (not an exaggeration) only professor I had this semester that seemed to understand that I am not an academic machine, I am a person. School is not the only thing going on in my life right now. My dad lost his job because of the pandemic, I am isolated from my friends, I have no stimulation all day long, and I am basically losing my mind. I knew I could talk to Dr. B about anything in my life and they are the ONLY PROFESSOR this semester that cared enough to ask how I was doing and actually wanted to know the answer. They understood that there are other things happening right now, and they were very responsive to our feelings. I have had maybe 3 professors in my four years at W&J that cared about the students and weren't just worried about their own lives; Dr. B is one of those professors. I would recommend them to anyone.

Dr. B takes the time to make sure students have a clear understanding of topics and makes class interesting rather than just going through the motions. I really enjoyed watching the films we were assigned even if I did not find one particularly interesting because I was aware there was a reason for the film being assigned. Having Dr. B for a second semester confirmed even more that I will always have a professor who will look out for myself and other students. Dr. B truly is interested in their students success and is one of the most enjoyable professors at W&J.

I really liked this class (Research Methods). It was definitely a lot of work and a lot of people see Com majors as a joke but I think that once we hit this class it starts to get more serious. While it was a lot of work I definitely enjoyed it. You do a great job of making sure everyone in the class gets involved and also feels comfortable speaking their opinion and voices. You are very encouraging and one thing I've realized that I like that you do is when someone says an answer and even if it's not what you wanted you twist it to be more in the direction you wanted. By doing this you never allow anyone to feel wrong or stupid which in some other classes have made me want to participate less.

In my opinion, the professor was always willing to talk to us collectively or privately if we needed help with the class or just anything. If you could somehow spread your teaching style to all of the other professors, I and other students would greatly appreciate it! I really enjoyed doing the research projects, despite all of the searching on the internet. You are a really great professor and you know how to enforce your teaching methods on whatever class youre teaching at the time. Cant wait to take you again in Journalism.

Dr. B always does a wonderful job making sure their students are heard and making sure they know they are cared about whether it is on zoom or in person. This is the only class I enjoyed this semester. Dr. B did a great job with teaching online and taking into consideration how zoomers were feeling every day. The Owl was a really cool feature that they incorporated into online learning and I really appreciated that. This (Political Economy) was also fun to take during an election year because we talked about about that and I learned a lot from Dr. B about laws regarding the election that I was not aware of. I go into class knowing that I am going to learn something new that will actually help me in my daily life. Thank you for being so great Dr. B :)

Dr. B's feedback on each article really helped my writing skills out a lot! She also encouraged us to work with those we typically do not and that type of
feedback from my peers also helped out a ton.

In class discussions about the films we watched, or the topics we were learning about, always improved my understanding of what we were learning. Feedback on analyses was always insightful and helpful for moving forward with following assignments (film analysis).

The class discussions were mind- blowing, and that is not an exaggeration. They were very helpful in breaking down intersectionality and the effect it has on people of marginalized communities. The amount of readings was not an issue, but because there are so many readings on different topics from different people that sometimes it was a little difficult to connect them all into a larger picture.

The structure of the class in my opinion was perfect. From day 1 I felt as though the class was a safe space, and that Dr. B was someone I could trust with academic issues and personal issues which helped my ability to learn.

Being provided with quality literature that was engaging and being assigned to critique it helped my writing and my ability to elevate my thought process. I felt challenged in this class but in a way that was meant to further my understanding of underlying issues we have today in America. The literature provided in this class proves that and it was fascinating to learn about it.

Class continuously ties with all the readings and applies theories to reality. Every discussion was very intense and helpful.

This class really surprised me. Coming into the beginning of the year, I had my doubts. However, Dr. Berberick absolutely exceeded my expectations with this class and its material. It taught me how to think more outside of my own ideas and understand the misrepresentations of other groups of individuals that the media does not cover as much. The tests were solid, the review questions help immensely, and the encouraging participation made this class one to remember. Dr. B is a great addition to the Communication Arts Department!!!

The most effective learning experience I had was the in-depth review course material such as textual analysis, ethnography, transcriptions, and ethical practices. Also, Berberick allowed space for conversation about events that happened outside of the classroom. Something I had never seen before at W&J.
She pushed me academically and for that I am grateful. I never thought I could do the things she made us do in the class but I did them, I did well on them and now that it is the end of the semester I am realizing that I am smart enough and good enough.

Dr. Berberick encouraged us to pursue research topics we were passionate about, and that passion made most of the projects throughout the semester feel especially rewarding. Individualized feedback during class workshops and discussions helped me better understand how to apply the methods learned to my topic of choice, and made me feel more prepared for interviews and focus groups. The course’s focus on researcher bias and reflexivity resonated with me especially well, as it is impossible to be completely objective in research.

I thought this course was taught exceptionally well. My professor went above and beyond to help me better understand concepts and answer all the questions that I had. We watched amazing independent films that I would have never watched had I not been in this class and I learned a lot from them and was able to relate the teachings to reality in all of my writings and subjectively analyze. This was my favorite class this semester. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dr. B was very open which made hard conversations a little easier to have. She would make sure that everyone in the class had a complete understanding of the material and was not afraid to continue to review material until she knew we understood. She also really understood us on personal levels and made me feel safe. This safety allowed me to thrive in the learning environment.

Dr Berberick was amazing when it came to giving feedback. She truly wants what is best for her students and will dedicate time outside of class to help them as well.

I really loved this class. Dr. Berberick makes you excited about a topic, even when it seems dry and boring to everyone else. She is always passionate and made me excited to research for the first time in my life. The only drawback for me was that I felt that we were really not given enough time to complete our focus group and transcriptions, which led to me really not being completely satisfied with my final transcription.

This was a super fun class that I will never forget. I learned a lot about myself through the process of making podcasts and becoming more comfortable in front of a mic and also in front of other people. Dr. B is one of the best professors I have had at w&j she is so approachable and I make an effort to try to always take a class with her because I love her as a professor and her style of teaching. She always checks in on her students inside and outside of the classroom and I think that is so important for students because it lets them know you care about them and want them to succeed. I had a great time this semester thank you for everything!! –Katie

10/10. I think that Dr B has a lot of passion about all of the subjects covered and wanted to help expose all of us to these topics and make sure we understood them appropriately in context

Very effective, the amount of feedback provided is more than any class I have ever taken. She seems to genuinely care about the students and what they get out of the class.

She gave me courage to talk about my opinion and help me connect my questions to assignment, so that I can solve it using what I learn in class. She is the best professor I’ve ever met during my university life.
